The three levels of kitchen remodels
Cosmetic refresh. Paint or reface the cabinets, new countertops, a new backsplash, updated hardware and lighting. The layout stays the same. This is the fastest and most affordable option.
Mid-range remodel. New semi-custom cabinets, quartz or granite counters, new sink and faucet, tile backsplash, new flooring and upgraded lighting. Appliances may stay or be replaced. The layout mostly stays the same.
Full custom remodel. Everything comes out down to the studs. Walls may move, plumbing and electrical get relocated, and you get custom cabinetry, a large island and premium appliances.

Ways to save without cutting corners
- Keep the layout. Leaving the sink, range and refrigerator where they are saves real money.
- Mix materials. Put the premium stone on the island and a more affordable quartz on the perimeter.
- Refinish instead of replace if your cabinet boxes are solid.
- Choose in-stock tile and fixtures to avoid special order delays and fees.
- Plan everything up front. Change orders in the middle of a project are the fastest way to blow a budget.
